Road Warden at work

Our volunteer Road Warden, Lister Bass, and his team have been hard at work repairing potholes. Many thanks to them.

Don't forget to let us know if you spot any problems on the lanes - flooding, potholes, etc.

Just email Sharon Raggett, our clerk, and she will pass the information on to the right people.

March Meeting Report

The Parish Council meeting took place last Tuesday and the minutes will be published in due course.

In the meantime here are the headline points:

  • We have been awarded over £4,000 from the National Grid Community Fund towards the cost of the Kettlwell Conservation Project (see an earlier blog). So we can now crack on with this project.

  • We are in the process of setting up a regular Youth Club in the Village Hall and we have already taken receipt of a new table tennis table, pool table and table football in preparation.

  • We have made representations to the Examination of the Joint Local Plan reinforcing our position that, for reasons of sustainability and lack of further need, no  case can be made for further housing development in the village.

  • We will investigate the costs and benefits of producing a Neighbourhood Plan for the parish and consult with the parish about the idea.

The next meeting on April 10th at 7.30 p.m. is, in fact, the Parish Assembly. This is the occasion on which the Parish Council reports back to the parish on its year’s activities. You will be able to see displays reporting on each aspect of the council’s activities, including the Advisory Groups who are taking the lead in delivering the Parish Plan.

There will opportunities to ask questions and express your thoughts about parish matters. Your input is very important to keep us on the right track. We hope you will join us.

Parish Council Meeting Next - All welcome

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Tuesday 13th March at 7.30 in the Village Hall.  The agenda is available in the Parish Council section of this web site.

We will be focusing on how we should deal with land and building development issues in  as we will have to make some important decisions as community about how we deal with these matters in the future.

Members of the public are very welcome at all our meetings and so if  you have any particular interest in building development in the village please come along.

The following planning applications will be considered:

Application no 0518/18/HHO – D Affleck – Highfield, Culver Lane – Replacement   and extension to the front porch and replacement and extension of the existing conservatory with associated internal alterations.
Application no 0149/18/FUL – Mr T Camp – Happy Stay Cattery, Colston Road – Split existing boundary and build a single storey dwelling with external terrace to be accessed through the existing site roadway.
Application no 0239/18/HHO – Mr & Mrs C Wensley – Bestwell House – Proposed dining hall extension.
The Parish Council is not the planning authority - we are merely consulted. Decisions are made by South Hams District Council and details of each application are available on the SHDC website (see below).

If you have any comments to make about planning applications the Parish Council would like you to communicate them to the two councils.

This can be done fairly easily. You can make any comments on the SHDC website and give your views to the Parish Council by attending our meeting, or communicating through our clerk. For details go the the parish website (see below).

Highways and Drainage Update

The Highways and Drainage Advisory Group meets with our local Devon County Council Highways Officer, Nick Colton, every two months to go over what work needs doing and who will do it.

Potholes and major drainage problems are dealt with by DCC and they are very responsive to any problems reported on their web page.  So please continue to report any problems you see. The link is
 https://new.devon.gov.uk/roadsandtransport/report-a-problem/

You can access this link on the home page of the Parish website.

Minor problems are dealt with by our Parish volunteer Road Warden, Lister Bass. We now have a supply of materials and equipment to carry out minor repairs and Lister has undertaken all the necessary safety training necessary before anyone can work on the highways. So we all owe Lister a big thank you for taking this on.

You can see the results of our meetings on the Highways and Drainage Advisory Group web page.

New Footpath and Conservation Area Planned for Village Centre

You may well have noticed quite a lot of work being done on the hedgerow alongside the field behind Garden Close.

This is being done as part of a project of the Environment Advisory Group. This is the Kettlewell Conservation Project, which will see new footpaths and a conservation area in the centre of the Village. The Group has applied for a grant towards the costs and you can see the details of the project as outline in the grant application by following the link below.
