New footpath opening at last

We are pleased to announce that the new footpath is ready to be opened. The official opening ceremony will take place at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday October 6th. Everyone is welcome to come along and walk the path for the first time - and there will be tea, coffee and cakes!

All this is happening a little later in the year than we hoped. Bureaucratic delays by the Charity Commission have created problems for us -  principally in delaying our access to funds needed to get some of the necessary work done. But all these issues are now thankfully resolved and we can get the footpath into use.

There is still work to be done in terms of conservation work, erecting permanent signage and displays, and possibly setting up new dog-litter bins but none of that stops our using the footpath.

The project has been managed by the Rattery Environment Group, which is a new charity set up to promote the "betterment of the local environment and leisure facilities" in the parish. They secured a grant from the National Grid Community Fund which enabled it all to happen.

So with the kind permission of the landowners, Dartington Hall, Devon and Cornwall Housing and Mr and Mrs Martin, we have a new permissive footpath in the heart of the village.

Do come along on the 6th October to help us celebrate a great new facility for the parish.
